Welcome! We so appreciate you stopping by our website to learn more about our little farm and/or check out what we have for sale.
Our farm name, Freedom Five Farm, is founded on Galatians 5:1 and also that we have five members in our family and live on five acres. Additionally, when I was making sure that we weren’t copying another farm name with my idea, I found something called the “five freedoms,” and that aligned with our philosophy too!
Michigan State University summarizes these five freedoms well:
1. Freedom from Hunger and Thirst: by ready access to fresh water and a diet to maintain full health and vigor.
2. Freedom from Discomfort: by providing an appropriate environment including shelter and a comfortable resting area.
3. Freedom from Pain, Injury or Disease: by prevention or rapid diagnosis and treatment.
4. Freedom to Express Normal Behavior: by providing sufficient space, proper facilities and company of the animal’s own kind.
5. Freedom from Fear and Distress: by ensuring conditions and treatment which avoid mental suffering.
We raise our animals on pasture as much as possible (which unfortunately isn’t year-round with our Wisconsin winters), but even while they can’t be out at pasture, we provide them with a large dry lot, spools and an old playset to climb on, and a great barn for adequate shelter. We raise them as naturally as possible with herbs as our go-to for any issues, including parasite prevention and management. This has resulted in an increasingly healthy herd since we brought our first goats home in 2022!
